PANEL 1
Outside. The door to the salon is propped open. Two plastic patio chairs sit against the wall. Desiree stands outside the salon, smoking a cigarette. her apron is off She is examining herself in a compact mirror. She extends a finger to the bottom of one eye and pulls down, inspecting the wrinkles.

PANEL 2
Customer 1 exits, moving backward, shouting thanks back into the salon as he goes. Desiree looks at him strangely. Directly across the street we catch a glimpse of a large mural.

CUSTOMER 1
Gracias! Thank you! She’s going to love it.

PANEL 3
Angel comes out, taking off her apron.

DESIREE
What was that about?

ANGEL
He wanted to ask a girl out on a date, but he couldn’t get up the nerve.

ANGEL (CONT’D)
Now that he has a new haircut… maybe he’s not so shy.

PANEL 4
Medium of Angel, leaning again the frame. Already tired, despite the early hour.

DESIREE
(off left)
He told you all that?

ANGEL
Not exactly. I could piece it together. Guys are easy to figure out.

PANEL 5
Desiree extends a cigarette to Angel. Angel winces away.

DESIREE
The young ones, maybe.

ANGEL
No, I don’t want to start. I know I’ll end up buying a whole pack when I go out tonight.
