MR. DAVIS
(to Alice)
Now who’s that?

ALICE
That’s Thomas.

PANEL 2
Similar. MR. DAVIS No, that can’t be Thomas. It’s been years since he was a toddler.

ALICE
(laughing)
Oh, Mr. Davis! No…

ALICE (CONT’D)
That’s Thomas with his son.

PANEL 3
Mr. Davis’s eyes widen.

MR. DAVIS
That’s Thomas? All grown up?

MR. DAVIS (CONT’D)
But it was only a few years ago my Josie and I used to mind him in the courtyard.

Alice softens.

ALICE
Oh… I’m sorry. They do grow up quickly, don’t they?

PANEL 5
They look out on the yard together, avoiding eye contact.

MR. DAVIS
Saw you all in black a few days ago. Funeral?

ALICE
Isabella and Adolfo Estevez. From way back in the day.

Mr. Davis.

MR. DAVIS
I remember. Roberto was their boy, right? Coached him in basketball at the community center.

MR. DAVIS (CONT’D)
Heard that’s gone, too.
