The Ragbox, Chapter 4, Page 7

This whole page should be presented in three panels, resembling the three floors of his building. Each is loaded with activity. Parents getting their young children off to school, people getting their newspapers, people just getting home from night shifts, etc.

PANEL 1
Mr. Davis walks left to right. He is about to descend the staircase to the second floor. An older Puerto Rican woman. Mrs. Rodriguez, stands at her doorway.

MRS. RODRIGUEZ
Good morning, Mr. Davis.

MR. DAVIS
Hey there, Miss Rodriguez. You got anything for me?

MRS. RODRIGUEZ
Sorry. Not this week.

MR. DAVIS
Okay then. Don’t worry yourself.

PANEL 2
Here on the second floor, Mr. Davis has found a little bit of trash in a corner and sweeps it up. A very young mother, Lucille, is walking down the hall. She carries a baby in one arm, and holds the hand of a toddler walking alongside her.

LUCILLE
Ah, gracias, signor!

LUCILLE (CONT’D)
um… Tank you. Tank you.

MR. DAVIS
No problem at all.

PANEL 3
The bottom floor, which opens directly to the courtyard. Mr. Davis comes around the final step and nearly runs smack into Alice. Alice is a black woman about Mr. Davis’s age.

ALICE
Now, hey! You need to watch where you’re –
