The Ragbox, Chapter 4, Page 2

PANEL 1
Mr. Davis sits up in bed, his feet hanging over the sides. With the window on the wall behind him, he appears mostly as a silhouette. Beneath him, a pair of slippers wait. The room is small and sparse. It lacks the beauty and detail of the Victorian houses. What little furniture there is seems as old as he. Nightstands on either side of the bed. The nightstand one the far side has a framed photo. The bed is meant for two. I’ll say this now, and you can fill in the details as the lighting permits. Mr. Davis is a black man in his sixties. He was of a good build when he was younger, and just over six feet. With age, some of the weight has been lost and the height causes him to stoop slightly. He wears proper pajamas, with a shirt that buttons in the front.

MR. DAVIS
Okay.

PANEL 2
Close up of Mr. Davis slipping his second foot into the slipper. He has already put on the first.

MR. DAVIS
What’s that I smell? Is that… no.

PANEL 3
Mr. Davis pushes himself up from off the bed.

MR. DAVIS
Nothing. Or maybe someone next door cooking. Funny how smells do that.

PANEL 4
Mr. Davis is standing and shuffles off to the right in the direction of the bathroom.

MR. DAVIS
Funny.
