PANEL 1
Roberto sits on the couch, sorting through the mail, opening envelopes, reading, etc. He faces us. Behind him, Ana continues to work, oblivious to Roberto.

ROBERTO
Did you learn all your Spanish from the cooking shows?

PANEL 2
Same. Different positions.

ANA
Mama taught me. I don’t think she meant to.

ANA (CONT’D)
When she was cooking, she would talk to herself. Sing to herself.

PANEL 3
Same. Roberto holds a letter in his lap, but his attention has been drawn back to the hallway. Ana continues.

ANA
She never did it when Papa was around. But she loved to sing when she cooked.

ANA (CONT’D)
She had this one song for cooking tamales. How did it go?

PANEL 4
Same. Roberto is getting up from the couch, and setting the letter down on the coffee table. Ana continues.

ANA
(with musical notes) Tomas las oujas,
Y un masa pequeña,
Hacen muy buena pareja…

PANEL 5
Same. Ana has some eggs and a porcelain bowl in her hands. Roberto has left the panel.

ANA
Hacen muy buena pareja…

ANA (CONT’D)
How did that go? Something about sale del mar…

PANEL 6
Same. In the left side of the panel, we hear the sound of the door to the parents’ bedroom closing. Upon hearing this familiar sound, Ana responds with violent surprise. She tosses the eggs up in the air.

Momma!
