Nancy, this is Dr. Khalil. He was my teacher over at City College.

NANCY
You’re not Mexican.
DR. KHALIL
Uh… no.
DR. KHALIL (CONT’D)
No, I’m not.

Different angle. Nancy seems unabashed. Dr. Khalil adjusts his glasses and faces Roberto.
NANCY
I guess I was just expecting a “cultural thing,” you know.
DR. KHALIL
Of course.
DR. KHALIL (CONT’D)
Anyway… I’m about to leave. I wanted to offer my sincere regret.

Roberto and Dr. Khalil. Roberto looks down, avoiding eye contact.
ROBERTO
