PANEL 1
Ana sits on Roberto’s bed. Roberto looks back down at his legal pad.

ANA
What are you doing?

ROBERTO

ANA

ROBERTO

PANEL 2
Close up of the application on his desk. He is on the essay page. Text reads: “Personal Essay [line break] Please write below or attach document.” Below are dozens of empty lines.

ANA
(off left)
Do you need…

ROBERTO
No.

ROBERTO (CONT’D)
Thank you.

PANEL 2
Roberto, distressed. He leans back from the desk, but still does not face Ana.

ROBERTO
Any college is going to wonder what the hell I’ve been doing for the five years.

PANEL 3
Ana leans over, trying to read from the pad.

ANA
What did you say?

ROBERTO
What can I say? Jobs. A bunch of shit jobs.

ANA
Listen. There’s the fire trucks.

PANEL 4
Roberto puts his feet up on the desk. Ana leans back and looks around the room, wide-eyed and childlike.

ROBERTO
Let’s hope a nice piece of land opens up when they clear away the rubble.
