PANEL 1
Ana stands before a bedroom door. She knocks.

SOUND EFFECT
knock knock

VOICE
(from behind the door)
What?

PANEL 2
Ana enters the bedroom to find ROBERTO sitting in a stiff desk chair at his cramped desk, pouring over a legal pad. He does not look up at her. The curtains are drawn. Roberto’s room is the picture of spartan life. There is a single 3-tiered bookshelf packed with books, a neatly made bed, a small bedside table with lamp and alarm clock. On the wall above his desk is a poster of a schematic of the Golden Gate bridge.

ANA
There’s a fire.

ROBERTO
In the house?

ANA
No.

PANEL 3
Ana stands further inside. He looks up at her, clearly annoyed.

ANA
Momma and Papa aren’t home yet.

ROBERTO
So?

ANA
I told them not to go out.

PANEL 4
Roberto.

ROBERTO
Yeah? Well we don’t all have that convenience.

PANEL 5
Ana looks down, abashed.
